4 Grantley St – former St Paul’s Church of England Parish Hall

Built in 1909, the Parish Hall was innovative for its day, being built of concrete blocks and having no frame. With an ornate pressed metal ceiling, a large stage and a kitchen, it was in regular use for concerts, balls and dinners. Slide shows, silent movies, and later “talkies” were presented by travelling showmen. In more recent years, local groups have held meetings, art and flower shows, family reunions and fundraising exhibitions. Sadly in need of repair, it is no longer safe for use.

The picture you can see on your screen is the laying of the foundation stone of the Church of England Parish Hall in 1909.

Take a walk up the driveway to the church which is your next stop.
