Situated 100 metres west of Linton-Naringhil Road, 1 kilometre south of Linton, a mullock heap is all that remains of this mine, a consistently good gold producer which was operated throughout the 1860s by the Atlas Company.
Photo: This photo on your screen is of a group of miners outside their mine at Pitfield Plains in the 1890-1900s. Although this is later than the mines mentioned in this tour, of which we have no photos, this group is typical of what miners would have looked like then. Note the candles they were equipped with to light their way underground. Little had changed in deep lead mining in 20-30 years.
